Hair thinning at age 17 female?

my hair starting thinning alot this yr, it isnt abnormally thin, but to me when i look at it it seems rly rly thin, just because i used to have ALOT more. i could say it looked about twice as thick. i have frizzy hair, so the frizziness prob made it poofier, but for real i had so much MORE HAIR. i did a few things i think contributed: 1 i had been straightening w/ bad straightner my hair daily w/no protection for 2 years, used a semi permanent hair dye, took like 8 months to fully wash, %26amp; i used to never let it air dry, ALWAYS blow dry (even just a little). so i stopped doing all of this in about early october... i started doing less to it, now i dont do like anything to it, for the past couple months i basically just tie it up, in a clip, wear it lose if im not out. do u think if i use little products, wash well, and no heat products, my hair will grow back nice in a while? wat else do u reccomend?

I think you should make two appointments. First see a good hairstylist. I worked at an AVEDA salon for 2 years and they have a good education system to keep their stylists educated. Call and ask to book a consultation. They will book an appointment for 20 minutes to 1/2 hour for you, usually free or for a small fee. Tell the receptionist what you said here. Your hair stylists can recommend products and a healthier routine to help your hair repair.

Think about your life and about your stress level. Stress can contribute to thinning hair. I had my hair fall out in patches leaving small bald spots on my head. this was temporary and my hair grew back.

I think it wuld be a good idea to call and make an appointment to see your doctor. He can examine you to determine whether your hair thinning is due to an underlying medical condition.

Ask your parents if there is a history of thinning hair in your family.

My sister is 26, and her hair has thinned quite a bit. It's a trait that seems to run in our family. At first, it was really shocking for her! She has very thick hair until now. Over the past few years it thinned, but it has stopped now, and although her hair is thinner, it is still beautiful, and it seems to have stopped.

I hope this helps you sweetie! I know what it feels like to lose hair!

When I got pregnant, I lost hair in a little patch in the back of my head, but it's growing back very well. Hormones!

sometimes your hair jsut randomly changes from straight to curly or thick to thin lol.

it'll probably change again in a few years,

just leave it alone and see what happens, but you might have it fro a long time so i would just try out a bunch of different ways to do it on the weekend and decide which way looks best lol :)

It should grow back. Just be really careful not to pull it too tightly when you pull it up or it will break more.

are you african american?

i am too and ik that doing all those things reallyyy murderes our hair. if your hair grows fast, you will just have to wait for it to grow back, but u can always make the hair that u already have nicer by using good shampoos. i definetly reccomend using organic shampoo, conditioner, and leave in conditioner. it wont get thicker but there are things u can do to make its condition better

It's going to take a long while ... the average persons hair grows only 6 inches a year. Make sure that it is not a medical reason for why your hair is falling out ... or do you have a lot of broken ends? Is it still think near the roots?

Find a really good shampoo and conditioner ... also never brush your hair wet ... it can stretch it making it brittle and breakable.

It might be because you have a thyroid problem or (the number 1 problem) is because you might be under a lot of stress. My mom had it and her hair was CONSTANTLY getting thinner...when she showered or brushed her hair, her hair would come out in clumps...her hair got EXTREMELY thin! I suggest you go see a doctor about it if it is that bad or worse. I don't think it is because of the drying and straighting your hair because my friend Natalie always blow dried her hair and her hair isn't getting thinner, and I always straighten my hair and my hair isn't getting thinner.

It could actually be a medical condition called "alopecia areata", too. In that case, consult a dermatologist.
