Losing hair?

recently i've been losing what seems like alot of hair. i thought i was overreacting since evryone thought i was but now i'm starting to worry. i can brush or run my fingers through my hair and pull out around 6 loose strands of hair in one pass. when i shower i seems to have around 50 or so strands that come loose. i just cut my hair and donated it so it's no longer to my butt but to my shoulders and it seems to have not gotten less. i know people are constantly losing dead loose hair and growing back new hair but how many strands are normal to loose in a days time? and does anyone know what could be causing this i have thyroid problems which are under control and other problems all under control so i can rule those out and ideas thanks.

Losing hair?

I heard that you should lose 100 strands per day.. don't even try counting. do you wear tight braids and pony tails? That makes your hair most likely to fall out easily.

here is a good website on teenage hairloss

don't worry you're probably overreacting

I have the same problem. Even if your thyroid is under controll, one of the side effects of the medicine is hair loss. Capsules of evening primrose oil can help slow it or stop it. You can buy them at a health food store. It never hurts to check with your doc though. Sometimes it is hard to keep the thyroid balanced.

If you are losing it in spots it could be Alopecia, but with this you have bald spots. You can also use a shampoo called nioxin. It helps with thinning hair. Good luck

ugh, I know how you feel, I'm having somewhat of the same problem. My hair stylist told me you're supposed to lose 100 a day. It's still less than 100 I think but, it's WAY more than it used to be! It was a VERY sudden increase. There's some skin and nail pills I'm planning on getting. Those might work. Hair loss for women sucks, don't it?
