My hair only looks good at home!?

I straighten my hair in the morning, which makes it nice and pretty and shiny...in the bathroom mirror at home, at least. Then I go to school and look in the mirror in the bathroom under the fluorescent lights and my hair looks all dull and lackluster and frizzy and has unstraightened itself! It's so freaking GROSS! I have a good straightener too! I have been trying to convince my mom that if she would let me dye my hair darker, it would appear more shiny, but she's like "I said no!" It's not like a little dye is going to kill me...or her for that matter. I shower at night; do you think showering in the morning would help at all with making it less nasty because my hair would get ratty overnight and then I'd get to clean it in the shower? I am convinced that my dull hair is the main problem of my ugliness, and if I had decent hair, I would be very attractive. What do you suggest?

Your 'hair problem' is that you are using 'way too much shampoo' and way too much 'conditioner' on it! That 'builds up' on your hair and makes it look 'dull and lackluster' and also adds to the 'frizziness' you're seeing. Try taking your bottle of shampoo and 'watering it down' with 'two waters to one shampoo' and 'shaking it to mix' and putting that into a bottle. For now, PUT THE CONDITIONERS AWAY and don't use them at all. Wash your hair IN THE MORNING and 'straighten it' ONLY if the 'straightener' is a 'hair iron' and not a 'solution' you put onto your head. If you are using a 'chemical straightener' you are just adding MORE to that 'buildup' on your hair. BRUSH YOUR HAIR THOROUGHLY and DO NOT USE A COMB ... a good brush with 'plastic' bristles that are 'fairly far apart' works best on hair like yours (naturally curly and 'way overprocessed') ... and then DON'T WASH IT UNTIL IT IS REALLY DIRTY. It usually takes 3-7 days for hair to get 'dirty' enough to need washing. Do this 'routine' for at least 4 months and 'ignore those curls' you've got if you can (even 'ironing' your hair can make it 'dull and lackluster') ... and if you 'can't stand it' then go to a good hairdresser and get the 'shortest cut you can' (even a crew cut is good) ... because what you really need to do is let your hair 'heal' after all the 'abuse' you have given it. It will take some time, but you should see in four months that your 'natural hair' is shiny and sparkling and looks 'really good' ... and you should not even 'think' about getting your hair 'dyed' if you are still young enough to have to 'ask your mother' if you can ... because you are 'too young' for it (and so is your HAIR, which needs time to 'grow up healthy' too!). If you still 'hate your hair color' you MAY, on 'rare occasions' buy a 'spray on hair color' that you can 'wash out' before you go to bed the night you put it in ... but NEVER more than one day out of every week for even 'that' ... and I'd pick a really 'cool color' like 'crimson' or 'kiwi green' or blue ... you are a KID and you can do stuff like that and look really 'good' ... but make sure that your hair is 'healthy' before you start, or you'll just end up with 'really icky hair' that can last FAR TOO LONG. If you really 'can't stand your hair' then do what I do on 'bad hair days' and wear a hat when you go out ... NOT A BASEBALL CAP though, because they are 'too tight' and look too 'boyish' ... but a good 'beret' canted over one ear, or a 'girl's hat' like a good straw hat since it's almost summer ... and the 'hat' will actually help PROTECT YOUR HAIR FROM SUN DAMAGE too.

ditto! except for the fact my hair is blone.

My hair only looks good at home!?

Pft! Only looks good at home!?? How is that possible??

I used to think the same thing-- I looked better while I was at home. But do you see yourself through out the day? And did you know that a lot of the times when you look in the mirror, you look the most awkward because you're SOO self-conscious you aren't even looking normal? Don't get so antsy!!

But if there really is a problem with your hair, I'd try giving it a good wash and then putting it in pig tails. It gives your hair shape and keeps it tame. That's what I always do. Good luck :)
