Hair PROBLEM!!!!!?

My hair is black right now, semi permanent, a little faded but still black. I want to strip the color from my hair and dye it a dark mahogany over it like this : http://nutrisse.garnier.ca/en/img/mechie...

The color stripping product i use works very well and doesnt damage hair, i know it takes out the black hair color, but leaves it with a underlying reddish brassy tint, that your supposed to dye over. I was just wondering what i'd need to do in order to keep my hair turning even brassier when i dye it mahogany after stripping the color? Do you think after stripping the black i should dye it a neutral tone and then add the mahogany to balance it out? Thanks for the advice :)

Hair PROBLEM!!!!!?

I have no idea what you are using to strip the hair, but anytime you strip the hair it does damage the hair. You may not think it does, however, I have been in the line of business for 11 years and stripping =bleaching. Bleach is the harshest chemical around aside from relaxers. I don't know where you get your information, but someone is telling you a lie. The stripping leaves the reddish brassy tint because the supposedly semi permanent color you are using has an undertone of red. And when you strip the hair or in other words bleach the hair, you need to put back in what you take out. If you do not fill the hair back with what you took out, your mahogany will not hold and you will not be a happy camper. So, if you insist on doing it yourself, go ahead strip the hair, you need to put deposit red back into your hair for the mahogany base to grab and hold. When you deposit the red, use a semipermanent(make sure that is what it is) and then use a permanent to do the mahogany. Do not use a neutral tone because you will not get the same results. And to let you in on a little secret, most store brand colors have ash tones in them and will make your hair a funky color. I know that some people it is hard for them to afford going to a salon, but in the end result we are the professionals who go to school for 1200-2000 hours depending on the state and some of us know what we are doing and we learn about shelf colors. My question to you is if your hair turns green, will you seek the advice of friends or the advice of a stylist who knows what they are doing. I know coloring can be expensive in a salon, but if you screw up your own hair, and have to go to a salon you will be paying for how many hours it takes them to fix it and lengh or thickness of the hair and will cost so much more then if you go now and have them do it. I am not meaning to make it sound like you don't know what you are doing, I just want you to know that as a stylist I want to see you happy with the ending result. I still say to go to your nearest salon for it to be corrected. You can try doing it yourself, but I can almost guarantee that you will not be happy and you would thank me if you went to a salon and got it done professionally.
